Revenue delays

Revenue delays

Didn't find your answer?

I submitted a client's late 2007 return on 26th August 2008 - refund due. Rang up today - answer the office concerned is only processing returns received in the week ending 8th August 2008 - 15 week delay. I know the client is hopeless but really delays of this magnitude are unacceptable..

Official complaint
Having been fobbed off several times by the call centre and the local tax office I made an official complaint to the Area Head about a return not processed after 4 months for a tax rebate. Miraculously it was processed the same day they received the complaint.

In-tray
I submitted an overdue 2007 return on paper (because you still cannot submit them by internet) in September. As with you, it showed a tax refund. When I called to chase up the refund a couple of weeks ago, I was told that they were flooded with all the 2008 paper returns submitted to meet the deadline of 31st October. When I asked if they could not pull out the late returns for earlier years and deal with them first, I was told that they all took their turn in the in-tray.

Late Processing
At a recent working together meeting it was acknowledged that paper Tax Return processing had been left for a period of almost 4 months (apart, supposedly, from repayment cases) because there was such a backlog of post, which has now been cleared.

Whether this was just the south West or a nationwide problem I am not sure!

Processing only commenced again in October.
