Revenue opening enquiry in January

Revenue opening enquiry in January

Didn't find your answer?

Am I imagining it or did I read somewhere that the Revenue had said that they would not open enquiries in January? I've had a S9A letter today dated January 10th. I'd been wondering what to do with all my free time!

Seriously?
Wasn't certain if your query was tongue-in-cheek or a serious enquiry.
I think you are correct that the Inland Revenue (having fallen foul of the Commissioners in circumstances where notices issued before the deadline of 31st January have arrived by post after 31st January) have said that they will not issue Enquiry Notices where they cannot expect that it will be in the Taxpayers hands by the deadline of 31st January, by way of normal post.
However, in my earlier posting, I did suggest that this was exactly the time of year that you should expect Enquiry Notices as the I.R strive to meet the neccessary target laid down, for at least opening an enquiry (even if they are not really in a position to work the Enquiry). You do have 30 days to reply.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

In sympathy
just received an enquiry letter for a client today. They have given me 30 days. Fat Chance of replying in that time. Just like everyone else we will be playing catch up in Feb.
