Revenue statements on line - what use?

Revenue statements on line - what use?

Didn't find your answer?

When self assessment was introduced we were told how tax payers (now promoted to customers) would receive regular statements of account, just like a credit card statements telling them there tax position. I have to express a number of gripes about these.
1 Why do agents copies not show interest that the taxpayers copy shows?
2 Why do you not get one when you have paid your liability to show that it has been paid?
3 The introduction of online access to statements has only exasperated point two. I have a client telling me they have paid, they probably have. But I can't check it online.
Am I the only person who feels let down by the Revenue hi tech access to out of date information?

Agreed
I guess that the Revenue think that to have some information is better than none. Actually is is worse. Although I have access to the online statement they are rarely looked at as they are always out of date. I have yet to work out what triggers the production of a new statement - it certainly isn't when the client has paid.

The only time statements can be useful, I find, is when they are examined to determine what payments, determinations and returns have taken place in the past. But building up a picture of historical events is surely not what they were designed for.
