Sage and ixbrl....and the advert on AW

Didn't find your answer?

Not so much a question, more a comment on the sage advert i have just seen on AW....with the quote ' have you got ixbrl under control?'...I don't use sage myself but was under the impression they hadn't sorted the ixbrl issue until very very recently (far behind most of the other competitors).  I realise they need to advertise the fact that they have something that works....but it seems ashame they were not so quick to address the original issue.

So as for the question 'have you got ixbrl under control?'....perhaps the response should be ....well have you (and what took you so long)?!!?

Not picking on sage in particular but they all (iris/digita etc) go to extremes to show their products in the best light and then completely ignore some of the fundamental failings of their products in the hope that we do not notice....

Sometimes I feel Sage is more of a marketing organisation than a

I use Sage 50 because many of my clients do, but I'm always surprised how much they charge for the software and how little it changes every year.

As a member of the Sage Accountants Club, I find I am constantly bombarded by literature and every so often phone calls from my Account Manager asking whether I have any more clients that want to buy Sage products.

I don't use Sage for final accounts production or corporation tax, but was astonished when I read about the delays to their iXBRL roll out, when many far smaller software companies had completed theirs.

Please Sage .... spend less on marketing and more on product development.

Agreed

We've been with Sage for over ten years, using their whole practice suite. Their products lacked development and we felt that they were geared towards sales. We recently took the bold decision to move everything (pretty much) over to Forbes.

I just submitted the first corp tax return and accounts on Forbes without issues. I had first attempted with Sage but gave up after getting lots of error messages!!!  Well done Forbes!   Richard (Breckman & Company)

Honesty ??????

"Not picking on sage in particular but they all (iris/digita etc) go to extremes to show their products in the best light and then completely ignore some of the fundamental failings of their products in the hope that we do not notice...."

Isn't that what ALL companies do, the whole job of sales/marketing (or whatever PC name they are now using) is to con their customers and potential customers.

All salesmen and advertising types are liars - they have to be. If they were honest we would see adverts for -

"**** sausages - preprocessed overpriced unhealthy cr*p"

and

"**** cars - guaranteed to cost you a fortune in repair bills"

and of course

"**** software, overpriced, full of bugs, but we want you to buy it because we need your money so we can also buy all the rubbish others market".

Now THAT would be honest marketting.

but the products should work at least!

Especially with software, Sage have not been developing their software, they have been buying everyone else's! And of course lumping it together, it doesn't work. Their personal tax software is great, corporation tax? Forget it. Their accounts production (again, not their own software) is the best I've come across (for flexibility) but its not much use now if you can't file it online!

Forbes and IRIS to name but two do actually seem to develop their products.
