Sage Line100 V Pegasus

Sage Line100 V Pegasus

Didn't find your answer?

I have a client who has asked me to help him do a software evaluation. The 2 products he has chosen are Sage Line100 and Pegasus. Both will need some integration to an EPOS system, plus some specialist reports that are not available as standard. Any suggestions for and against would be welcome.

Carter software reviews on AccountingWEB
Kathleen,

David Carter, software guru and veteran of over 100 software installations has been commissioned by AccountingWEB to produce independent reviews of accounting software. Fortunately two of his first reviews are on Sage Line 100 and Pegasus Opera II!

Each review provides a highly detailed analysis of the each package - including module by module assessment of functionality and compatability, together with David's overall assessment of each package.

Carter's reviews are part of the Accounting Software/ERP Selector which aims to assist AccountingWEB members in shortlisting accounting software.

For more details on David's reviews, visit:

Thanks

Richard

The basis of your decision?
I am not sure I can help in the selection between the two but I can tell you that Advanced PayPoint Solution's EPoS software has standard integration's with both Line 100 and Pegasus Opera II. We support resellers of both vendors (as well as Exchequer and Navision).

In general terms my view of the two products is that they are pretty similar but there are differences underneath that may give you the reason for the selection.

However, the real difference will probably as much lie with the reseller you deal with and their ability to understand and meet the solution needs of the retailer. (Again I have quality resellers from both camps!) But it is probably more an emotional decision - who do you and they feel most comfortable with. There is in my opinion too much emphasis placed on the software - for most software can do most functions (and that is certainly my understanding of Line 100 and Opera II) and not enough time is focused on the partnership required to make the relationship and the software work.

Call me an old grump but…..

Say to Sage “so tell me oh esteemed software supplier, does your useless package do standard reports in date order yet?”
Then ask Pegalog the same question, then look elsewhere.

Also despite aeons passing, Sage slime50/100 is still not really Windows-based as all the reports are done as print preview windows which is a really boring method to use when looking up data.

Seriously though you need to look really carefully at whatever you propose, to make sure it really does what the supplier alleges. Although TAS is part of SAGE you should look at TAS 3 as it is pretty powerful and they have an integration division to screw it into other pacakges.

Depends on the EPOS solution
Hi Kathleen,

I'm slightly confused. Does the client already have an EPOS system?

If the answer is yes, then the best place to start is talk to the EPOS vendor and find out if they have already written a link or support either of these products. If neither are supported then I would seriously consider looking at Access Accounts. Unlike Sage and Pegasus this has a module called Transaction Broker which will integrate with third party software in real time. Sage and Pegasus still have manual import routines.

If they dont have an EPOS system then I suggest contacting Nichloas Fraser who has already responded. Sage have tried and failed a couple of times to provide an EPOS solution and so now rely on third party developers, such as APS Paypoint. Nicholas' company was created as a management buyout from Pegasus so it will also work with that software too.

As for which is best, they are much of a muchness I'm afraid so it will come down to look and feel.

If you need any help, especially with Access, then please feel free to contact me.

Kind Regards
