Client has received an e-mail, purportedly from HMRC, advising that they have overpaid PAYE, following an 'analysis of fiscal acitivity during the last year'. Clicking on the link takes you to a screen requesting credit card details in order that the refund can be paid. Clearly bogus, but I'm wondering how widespread it is and whether HMRC know about it.

There have been reports of people receiving an email from "HMRC Premier Services" telling them they are due a tax refund. Just click on the link and give us your debit card details . . . !
