Self employed, paid via chainbox

Self employed, paid via chainbox

Didn't find your answer?

My client, who is a metalworker insists that he is self employed and gets paid via a Co called Chainbox.
He receives what look like payslips and works 5 days a week for the same Co and has virtually no expenses. I'm astonished that he can be described as self employed.
He tells me he has many more colleagues paid on the same basis.
Has anybody come across this organisation?

Many Thanks

Roger

Is it a composite company?
I have not come across the Chainbox, but without delving too deep, your client would appear not to be self employed but an employee of a composite company. His remuneration package will be made up of salary (usually at either NMW or at LEL for NICs) and dividends.

There are various articles on this database re composite companies which should be read to enable you to form an opinion of them.

Chainbox
My understanding of this company is that they provide an invoice type service which means workers (mostly those looking to work in the UK for a short time) sign up to Chainbox who invoice whoever the worker is working for, which is normally a Recruitment Agency, and Chainbox take a percentage of the total amount and simply pay the rest to the worker on the basis that he is self employed and therefore responsible for his/her own tax affairs. The Company Accounts of Chainbox make interesting reading.

Thanks for your input
Thank you, Philip and Carolyn, I had forgotten about this one actually as it was some time ago when it was posted. I appreciate your input.
Will keep your comments on file, for our various chainbox clients. It is reassuring to know that the Revenue are aware of this arrangement.
