social club accounts

social club accounts

Didn't find your answer?

i have recently finalised a set of accounts for a social club. unfortunately 3 months records went "missing" and best estimates had to be used for cash income and expenditure.

one particular machine was on a 50/50 split with the operator and they calculated this via a chip (or similar from within the machine). however, they charged £14k in the year and the profit in the clubs accounts is only £4k. it therefore seems there is a cash shortfall of £10k.

the committee pressed for the accounts to be presented to the members at AGM but would not allow the qualification of the cash shortfall to be discussed, rather wanting this particular item to be further discussed at an EGM and after they and I had met with the machine operator to clarify how they calculated the income/payouts from the machine.

to date this meeting has not taken place and instead my monthly s/o payments have ceased. also i was not given the records for completion of the last vat return.

i have now had a phone call from the treasurer saying they want another firm to check the accounts and would i hand them all my records! (i suspect an employee of the firm is a family member of one of the senior committee members).

what would people suggest in this situation?

also, each year after member approval of the accounts there is also a vote to re-elect me for the following year. as it looks like i am being removed by the committee not the members can they do this? have looked at the "rule" book but it is very basic.

thanks in advance for any comments

EGM
I believe you have the the right to attend the EGM, and make your concerns known to the members .... failing that, I would circulate a letter highlighting your concerns to the members.

Blame culture
Seems like the committee don't want to accept responsibilty for this and are looking to blame someone else, or at least spread it around a bit. You look like the most convenient candidate.

????????
seems to me you are best out of this. Is a NCIS report required?
