Software for contractors / developers

Software for contractors / developers

Didn't find your answer?

as above.

with a bit more detail. Two development and investment companies. (software needs to provide rent ledgers). These companies develop residential and commercial buildings, and let commercial offices, warehousing and retail space.

There are two contracting subsidiaries which may also need to be serviced by the software. (further subsidiaries have different software in place).

One subsidiary is remote from head office, and is currently run on a separate server - we would like to consider a real time link.

obiviously need CIS and payroll and all the usual whistles and bells.

All comments (even negiatve ones) appreciated. Thanks.

Ramesys
www.Ramesys.co.uk

Ramesys have a product called MENTOR ENTERPRISE which is well suited to the construction industry and has all the bells and whistles you would expect from an integrated accounting and costing package. Also, it has full CIS nad payroll features.

One thing also to bear in mind is cost and how much you are prepared to spend.

Good Luck

Ramesys Axim - not
Wouldn't recommend Ramesys Axim - used it in a previous, not very distant, life and there were so many issues with it from all points of view. The support wasn't up to much, upgrades didn't work, bugs appeared from nowhere.

Horses for courses
Robert

Horses for courses. Without breaking the bank, it's quite rare to find a solution that does all of what you are asking for well. However, you have not said just how big these companies are as a solution for 100 weekly transactions for three concurrent users will be very different from 10,000 weekly transactions for 35 concurrent users. If you could give some guide....

Our experience is that it is the payroll\CIS bits that often need a standalone solution that feeds (via journal export\import) the main job costing, rent, ledger, accounting system. It is one area that is specialised enough to need constant revision, that more staid ledger pacakges don't often keep up with (over and above feeding new rates tables and chasing you endlessly about P11D submission programmes). How much anlaysis of a contractors pay (whether PAYE or CIS) do you need. For example, in each pay period do you analyse or want to analyse each hour or value in great detail or a broad 50% on job A, 50% on job B, etc. I say this because we have had solutions where the arguments over which hour relates to which job were endless and this one answer will point to the best payroll solution.

Terminal Services - to be honest, if a programme can't run on terminal services, I'd be worried about it's file locking and user access programming. Linking a subsidiary office is very easy with broadband these days, so that is a given

Have you considered SkyEnterprise?
Hi Robert,
You may not have heard of SkyEnterprise - it deals with accounting, job costing & billing, and time & expense recording.

We currently have a client in the engineering industry who uses our system with the additional CIS requirements (we have added this to their system as a modification), but it does depend on how much detail you want to go into. We also have a client who manages property estates, who may have similar requirements to your clients below. I don't believe we have a specific 'rent' ledger available however, even though SkyEnterprise does have all the usual ledgers available within accounting software products.

Take a look at the on-line demos if you are interested (these take 5 minutes): http://www.skynetas.com/demos_online.html

The system is modular so can be purchased as a full accounting system, or by module if preferred. Licensing operates on a concurrent basis so you do not need one licence for each user.

If you do need any further details, please let me know.

Ramesys? Access Accounts?
One of our clients has had a bad experience with Ramesys. They had agreed to upgrade from thier existing package to Axim from Ramesys, however ater nearly two years they have still not got it working right.

I don't know how much of this is down to Ramesys, but from our clients perspective the install was badly planned and carried out, the product does not do as the salesman promised, and they are not impressed with the product.

I think the main issue is more to do with expectations and poor planning than poor software, but it has still not been resolved.

We are looking at the possibility of deploying Access Accounts to provide all of the accounting/CIS/Payroll functionality. Not sure if Access would do your rent ledgers - this isn't a requirement for our client.

For remote access - some screens in Access are browser based and can be made available, but if there are a number of remote users I would look at using Citrix or Terminal Services.

Please feel free to email me if you would like more info on Access or our experience with Ramesys.

Collaboration software for construction, property management
Hi,
We have an online payroll solution that would work for you, an online accounting solution that might work (but not construction specific like some of the other posts), but more importantly a superior document management and supply chain collaboration solution (called Business Collaborator) that you should definitely take a look at. It's already used by construction and property management companies, as well as architects for sharing documents between the client, partners, and sub-contractors to ensure full accountability, approval and sign off - making sure everyone is on the same page. It can help you review project performance and monitor key metrics, and then link in to your other systems. As with all of our solutions it's delivered as a service over the web, so you can start using it almost straight away - you only need a basic PC with a web browser and an internet connection - plus it is designed to work with any Mac or PC environment, and handles more than 250 different CAD, project, graphic and document file types.

Contact me for more details.
