Software suggestions for startup

Software suggestions for startup

Didn't find your answer?

Can someone suggest a suitable accounting system for startup business. We will be operating a subscription based web site which will eventually go international so multi-currency operation will be needed. We would not be generating invoices, just capturing periodic payments from subscribers. We also plan to sell downloadable digital products as we develop. We would prefer a web based system so it can be remotely hosted and accessed. Some CRM facilities would be useful as would ease of integration to ecommerce operations.

As a startup our budget is not large and we won't have many users, possible only one needed for data entry with multiple user access for enquiries and reports.

My role is technical manager, I'm not an accountant although have some knowledge of such systems from previous roles.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

An alternative route?
There are some fine suggestions here but when you say CRM exactly what so you mean? You can get on with building community - which is four square about customers for free with wordpress.com

Try Winweb
Hi Richard,

I would recommend Winweb www.winweb.com

It's web based and very reasonably priced - and the support team are excellent.

It certainly integrates with e-bay trading and you may be able to negotiate integration with other e-commerce operations.

re multi currency
are you really going to bill and receive payments in foreign currency? This can add considerably to your banking costs.

Do you expect to have to register for VAT? For a retail business there may be dispensations about invoicing, but most web transactions I make come with a sales invoice of some sort.

.
Hi Richard,

I see WinWeb has been mentioned, there is also Twinfield which will certainly be worth a look.

We have clients who operate businesses over the internet and some of them use Esellerate which deals with payments from customers and if you are offering downloadable products they can handle this together with unlock codes if they are required, this may also be worth a look.

Hope this helps.

IT Zone guide to the subject
Richard,

Nigel Harris has dealt with similar queries many times and compiled his observations and advice into an Expert Guide for us entitled, A buyers guide to accounting software for start-up businesses.

It includes some accounting tips, as well as links and a pointer to Nigel's other relevant article Online accounting services buyer's guide. I hope these articles help with your search, along with the advice from other AccountingWEB members.

Software suggestions for startup
I would go for Mamut Accountant Start £79 to buy plus £8.00 per month for upgrades and helpline. It will be able to grow as your company grows.

Just go to mamut.co.uk and download a free evaluation software package.

Try Tally
For a start up business , I feel Tally (which is most popular in India and available at a low cost) may be suitable. The main advantage is the sw does not require any coding and a standard format is already existing in the system. You may modify the way you want as per your needs. I am suggesting as a user of Tally system.

re Tally
http://www.tallysolutions.com/about.shtml

I guess this is the company suggested? They seem to be offering a multi user licence for 900usd. I have to say I am intrigued by this - not come across it before
