Solicitors accounts software

Solicitors accounts software

Didn't find your answer?

Small solicitor client is wanting to computerise their accounting system & have given me a demo copy of Perfect Books for Windows.

I have had a quick look & whilst it may do the job it doesn't seem particularly 'accountant friendly'! It might just be me not liking the format of the reports coupled with the fact that debits are negative and credits positive on the TB - initially confusing!

Anyone any first hand experience? Would you recommend it?

Cost appears to be approx £975 for 1 user - (one off fee not annual).

Can anyone recommend anything else in the budget price bracket?

Look at Lawbyte
Have a look at Lawbyte - produced by Edgebyte Computers - this is on the Law Soc list. I find the reports good but it may not be ideal if the person inputting data has limited knowledge of accounts & is just a basic bookkeeper.

They all look odd
Adam, I used to work for a firm of solicitors and they used S.O.S. Software, however that is far more than just accounting software. All those designed for Legal Firms seem to incorporate far more 'client orientated features' the accounting side of it seems to be an add on in most cases.

The Law Society is probably the best place to go to ask about what the industry uses - they also dictate the minimum standards through the Solicitors Accounting Rules.

Not sure that helps?

Following up
I have just checked the Law Society Site - there is guide produced on software for solicitors practice. The most reasonable looks to be DPS but as I stated the focus tends to be on intergration and matter reporting. I think they tend to put the accounting side in as a bolt on!!
