Statutory Maternity Pay

Statutory Maternity Pay

Didn't find your answer?

If someone is eligible for SMP and is still receiving this after the baby is born from an Employer, is this payment affected by income from a self employed business?

My initial view is that the self employed income will not affect the SMP from the Employer as the person is still intending to go back to work for the same Employer.

Any Thoughts?

SMP - Employed and Self-Employed
Any earnings someone makes during self-employment whilst on legitimate maternity leave from employment does not effect the SMP received at all.

In fact you can get SMP from more than one employment provided provided you meet the criteria in that individual employment. I have heard of a management consultant who was employed for 4 different companies on a part time basis who collected 4 lots of maternity pay for 6 months!
