Stock for a jewellery company

Stock for a jewellery company

Didn't find your answer?

I am trying to find an accounting package that can handle stock items effectively for a jewellery company. We are currently using Quickbooks which is very flaky, and have been told that Sage is also not very good. Does anybody know of any good packages that can handle stock really well?

Thanks

Some ideas
Claire,

There are a number of choices for you, but as always it depends on what type of Jewellery company you are - manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer, etc.

If you are a retailer, then I'm sure you have some of the following needs - second hand sales (and therefore margin scheme VAT), repairs, sales by supplier, ring size, metal, weights, designers, unique stock records, etc. Thereafter, Viv is right in that you may be someone who wants an all encompasing EPOS, stock, repairs and accounting solution or an organisation who wants a jewellery stock solution that provides the accounting information for Quickbooks, but deals with all those jewellery stock issues. Needless to say, we can offer both and shades in between.

If you are a manufacturer we also offer a tailored solution that deals with the real issues facing manufacturers - metals, weights, quantities, one off designs, pictures, etc

If you are a wholesaler then your choice is generally wider as more systems could offer some of the unique jewellery features as it is more akin to shifting boxes made by another and sold by another. It tends to be the retailer or manufacturer who have the specific needs

Hi Claire
We look after some of the major independent jewellers in the UK and would heartily recommend either
Encore or Jewelmaster depending on whether the user required a full replacement system with the accounting ledgers or they wished to keep their quickbooks and move all the stock side into a separate system which just gives a summary to quickbooks.
Both systems will give you "aged stock" "sales by supplier" "on appro" "special orders" all the normal requirements which are not catered for in mainstream solutions
