stock transfer

Didn't find your answer?

when do you need to send the stock transfer form for stamping?? My understanding is only if there is consideration passed between buyer and seller. However I have been told it is beneficial , for revenue purposes, to have it stamped, £5, even if its a gift.

I am referring to small/medium owner managed companies

exempt from stamp duty
If you look at the back of the stock transfer form there is a list of circumstances which are exempt from stamp duty. L covers gifts inter vivos. If it qualifies all you have to do is have the certificate signed by the transferor, his solicitor or agent. No stamp duty is payable and it does not need to be given to the stamp office.
