Subcontractors Subsistence expenses

Subcontractors Subsistence expenses

Didn't find your answer?

Does anyone have experience on how much a subcontractor claim for meals when wrorking away? Would £20 per day be acceptable to Inland Revenue?

Yes I am sure

The Revenue manuals do not always state the law clearly but this is correct::

Presumably you are referring to the Subcontractor's accounts
Knowing the way the Revenue are at the moment you would be best off sticking to receipted expenses. Although I have seen employers agree daily allowances for employees working away, I don't recall seeing anything similar agreed for a sole trader.

If you are asking how much a subcontractor can claim from a contractor, the answer is nothing. A Subcontractor is self employed he is responsible for his own expenses. If the daily rate is increased by £20 to include expenses, that's between the contractor and subcontractor.

Are you sure? Maybe a self-employed long distance lorry driver with a vehicle owned by him/her.
