The Tax Club

The Tax Club

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

Is anyone or has anyone been a member of The Tax Club?

I had a flyer a while back and it sounds like it might be quite handy.  As a sole practitioner it's always nice to have some sort of support network (especially on the tax side) and the tax specific forum alongwith access to an "expert panel" sounds like it could come in really handy.  I'm unlikely to go to any of the events as I generally find that there aren't any very near to me and it's cheaper and easier to attend events organised by the local branches of my professional bodies, but the updates could also be useful (although I already receive Tax Advisor journal so I don't know if it would just be duplicating info).

I seem to recall it was £100, so at that price I'm thinking it's probably worth joining for a year to see but any opinions /experience on it's usefulness would be very welcome.

Thanks

BG

The tax club

I'm sure it's a coincidence but if you type "the tax club scam" into Google there are a lot of postings about a US company with the same name involved in selling taxation services.

The UK company appears to be owned by Expert Clubs LLP

You're right it's a coincidence.  The Tax club is nothing to do with the US or any 'scam'.  The chair of the UK Tax Club is Tim Good.

It's a great forum for resolving issues, and has close to a 1000 members.

The Tax Club

I am also a member of the Tax Club and would thoroughly recommend it as another useful resource for busy tax professionals. As Stephen has mentioned, Tim Good heads up the Tax Club and it is backed by AVN, Iris, Abbey Tax and PTP. I find that Accountingweb and the Tax Club are my two main online sources for tax news and updates. The regional meetings can be quite useful as well.

Meetings

You'll get the most out of it if you attend the annual Tax Club Conference and regional courses. They aren't like normal CPD extravaganza and instead give you useful information on strategic alliance partners and access to various providers. You also get apps that you can use in your practice to put some of the ideas into effect straightaway.

The free version of the AVN remuneration planner is worth the £100 on its own, IMO.

The forum is nowhere near as busy as AccountingWeb, but it does have veriosu specialists posting on it and is closed to the public so you don't have to worry about looking silly!

Good value & Genuine

I joined the tax club recently and the free software app for remuneration planning alone is worth far more than the annual subscription.  With Tim good in charge you can be assured that it has nothing to do with anu US scam.  I would strongly recommend it.

Thank You

Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply.

I've now joined up and will see over the next year how much I use it.

Tax Club

It's worth a punt for £100 and a pleasant change to converse with people who have a Christian name and a surname. Not sure why anyone should type "the tax club scam" into Google but I suppose it takes all sorts.

The Tax Club

Tom

This forum works on obtaining and passing on knowledge

The original post asked "Is anyone or has anyone been a member of The Tax Club?"

As I have not been a member of the club and purely out of curiosity I typed The Tax Club into Google and up popped the "scam", which I passed on to BG

What an unfortunate coincidence

Firstly, welcome Batty Girl to the Tax Club!

I am a member and joined at Iris World over a year ago. It's been brilliant for me as a sole practitioner. There's resource at your fingertips through the forums and a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw on and point you in the right direction.

The quarterly events are great too, a nice opportunity to meet other accountants and share ideas as well as picking up some great applications for free along the way.

I've also recently joined Accountants Club which works on the same principles and looking forward to my first event next month (which incidentally has been wonderfully scheduled on the same day as the Tax Club event, so you only have to travel once and have one day out of the office to do 2 half day events).

Well worth the modest membership fee in my humble opinion.
