Tax Credit deadline

Tax Credit deadline

Didn't find your answer?

.... even though the renewal packs aren't out to all claimants yet (per the Helpline today) the renewal date for claimants this year has again been shortened by one month, to 31 July. Last year it was 31 August, and prior to that 30 September. Was this advertised anywhere???

This means a claimant receiving his pack this weekend has only 2 months to update the figures for the claim based on the 2008 tax return info. Holidays, P11d info arriving in the first week in July, forgetting, etc - this could mean a lot of people being late and pressure on those who help clients with claims..

July deadline
is a bit of a non-event. It just takes a phone call to renew and slap in some estimates.

The way for the future
Tightening deadlines has been the general trend for years - the tighter the deadline, the more likely people will miss out on claiming (or if tax returns the more likely they will have to pay penalties).

Tax credits
The deadline was the 31st July last year and it is the same this year.

Yes it is tight but HMRC don't think about us poor accountants who have to deal with this stuff!

David.
