ok i have removed my earlier comment and put it from a slightly

if you are an accountant or book keeper with any sort of reasonable knowledge or experience

i would hope that the person would know the answer to this question in order to avoid getting clients into trouble

if you are some one running your own business

then it is motor expenses
but in this case i would hope you would make use of an accountant or book keeper etc to check your records / pepare your accounts/ tax return etc in order to avoid as many problems as you can.
that is what we are there for

Sorry Iain
That's not in the spirit of this forum. Yes we get annoyed when people hold themselves out as professionals when they obviously don't have a grasp of the basics. But your answer is a bit harsh given that there's no indication of those circumstances here.

Adam, treat the IPT as part of the cost of the insurance. There's no need, and indeed no point in separating it out. It's not like VAT.
