I have a client who has been waiting more than seven (7) weeks for a tax refund in excess of £6000 to be issued. As usual the Revenue web site says it was issued (on 27 April) but a phone call last month confirmed that it had been selected for "Security Checks". What are AW members current experiences of the time delays in such cases? Has anyone found an effective way of speeding them up or where to complain?
Thanks

I had...
...a small refund that got held up for around ten days, and had apparently been released the day I rang to find out what was going on
Tax Repayment Security Checks
I've had similar problems recently. It took 6 weeks and 5 phone calls to reclaim a small tax refund for a self assessment client. I was advised to put my complaint in writing to:
Customer Services Dept, Centre 1, Queensway House, Stewart Fields Way, East Kilbride, Glasgow.
I did and they handled the matter very well. Good luck!
I must have been lucky ....
I received a refund (on behalf of a client) of around £1,400 almost exactly within a week of the submission date. Doesn't usually work so smoothly but it's nice when it does.
The Bristol black hole
The last couple that have gone into the Bristol security-checking office emerged about 2 months after the official "we've sent a repayment" date. Better than it was and fewer rebates going to Bristol (?) - or maybe that's just subjective.
Address
The Bristol address is: The Repayment Security Team, AASNIU, HMRC, 101 Victoria Street, Bristol, BS1 6BG.
Hang on in there
Managed to get a six figure tax repayment (once in a lifetime) for a client
Two cheques issued 29th April
Client received them beginning of last week
All comes to he who waits
