Technology: what's good and what's bad and what's frankly useless

Dear All,

Further to my recent post on Cloud Bookkeeping my intrigue in technology has blossomed further.

I would like you all to help me alleviate my current itch. I would like it if people could respond with their views on technology in the accounting industry, particularly in practice.

I'd like to know people's favourite applications, programs etc. at the moment, along with their worst; any software (or perhaps hardware even) that people have invested in thinking they'd be revolutionary only for them to find they were better off without...or perhaps those that you were sceptical about but turned out to be integral. What new technology do you embrace? Are you an avid 'cloud' fan? A paperless technophile? Or perhaps your a technophobe and don't know what the fuss is about?

A pretty open ended question I know (perhaps it should have been a discussion topic rather than an any answers post but frankly I prefer the people round here!), I would love to hear people's views.
