Training Costs

Training Costs

Didn't find your answer?

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help?

Single Director/Owner Ltd Company working as a physiotherapist. During the course of the year, he undertakes a course to formally update and consolidate his qualifications at a University. Its to update pre-existing skills. The course costs are just over £4k.

Is this an allowable expense within his company accounts?

Thanks.

Must be relevant to employment
Provided that the training costs are relevant to the director's activities within the company that employs him I see no tax problems arising,
by this I mean...
(1) They are allowable as staff training costs in the company accounts
and
(2) They are not a Benefit in Kind

Were it to be the case for example that the training costs were to benefit the director for an alternative occupation then I can see potential benefit in kind issues arising. Eg. company provides physiotherapy but director wants to train as a dentist and will be a sole trader when he becomes a dentist.
