Does anybody know how long a company has to be dissolved before its name can be used again for a new incorporation?
The Companies House website seems to be silent on the subject.
Thanks in advance.

Immediately
When I last asked this question of Companies House (several years ago) the answer was once the company had been struck from the register the name became available.
Test it
My understanding is the same as Steve's.
You can always test it by using the various tools available to see if a name is available and trying one that has just been dissolved.
Caveat
You do want to consider why it was dissolved though. If there were reputational issues for the old company, they are likely to attach to a new company with the same name, even if they are completely unconnected.
it is immediate but....
Having dione this last year for a client I can confirm it is immediate.
Basically they came up with a name, I looked on Co House and it was taken but the name was a company disolved a year previous.
I called co's house and said "could they use it" and they said yes and they removed the name from the list when looking it up, client got incorporated - "job done". If you do not ask them to remove the record states two companies with the same name apparantly.
Downside - ues there is a posibilty of being "linked" to a disolved name but my client had no experience of this - only problem they had was initial google searches (for first year) listed the old disolved company.
Hope that helps
How quickly though?!
So are we able to close down our limited by guarantee company with the name, then register as limited by shares with the same name on the same day??? Thank you :-)
