Van fuel benefit

Van fuel benefit

Didn't find your answer?

EIM22945 says that the advisory fuel rates for company cars cannot be used for vans when dealing with the question of "making good" the private fuel. At what rate should the private use be reimbursed to avoid the fuel benefit?

Work it out
EIM22945 goes on to say that the reason for not using the advisory fuel rates is that they were calculated from the average fuel consumption of the most popular fleet cars. So, take the hint and work out the average fuel consumption of your fleet of vans.

But make sure detailed mileage logs are kept
We are effectively back to keeping detailed records of all mileage, including the period when the consumption rate is calculated. The Revenue still expect to see record keeping to the nth degree on fuel.

fuel benefit??
the concept of private fuel for vans will only come into effect from April 2007, when the new rules come into effect.

At the moment the benefit of £500 includes the van and fuel - so I reckon the employee would have to "make good" the full £500 to have no benefit.

Planning ahead
Sorry I didn't make clear in my original query that I'm planning ahead and trying to sort out a scheme to be in place from April 2007.
