vat ON-LINE HELP LINE PERMANENTLY UNAVAILABLE?

Been trying to call the VAT on-line help line for a week now. They are permanently "experiencing a high volume of calls" even at 8 am & we are held in a queue for about 15 minutes then cut off!

Apart from the time & cost issues, does anyone know how we can talk to someone at the VAT on-line help desk?

I'll answer my own question!
I've just called my local VAT office who very kindly got someone from the VAT on-line help service to call me. I was told that they only have 2 people in the whole of the country answering calls at the VAT on-line help desk!

As HMRC are encouraging all VAT Registered businesses to submit on-line, I would think that they require more than 2 people to man the lines at the commencement of this new service.
