VAT registration taking 8-10 weeks

VAT registration taking 8-10 weeks

Didn't find your answer?

We have recently applied for VAT registration for a number of clients and HMRC are taking a long time to process the applications. Current estimates from HMRC are 8-10 weeks. Most of the clients are desperate for the VAT numbers as cannot trade/set up contracts without them. We have spoken to various supervisors and managers at HMRC who said there is nothing anyone can do but sit and wait.
Obviously, we are then getting calls from irate clients wanting us to find out what their VAT no is which we cant do!

Has anyone else experienced such a wait and is there anything at all we can do????

Thanks

Apply on-line
That way, they cannot claim your application never arrived, when in reality they have lost it.

Newry closed an application of mine, despite claiming never to have received it.

Yes!
Yes indeed - I put a post on here recently about it.

It is a crazy situation.

I was told the best way to get an application processed asap is to send in as much proof as possible to show it is a genuine application ie copies of insurance documents/ invoices/contracts/bank statments etc.

Nervous about Fraud
What with the headlines about carousel fraud etc, HMRC are less keen to hand out VAT numbers in the hope that more VAT may come flowing in because so much is flowing out...HMRC is undertaking more checks on applicants and going to greater depths to query applicants who are intending to trade.
