VAT Registrations - NETPs

Didn't find your answer?

Does anyone know what NETPs can be required to have a UK tax representative? My potential client is an Australian business wanting to set-up here.

Anyone - upon direction
No NETPs are required to have a VAT representative by default. HMRC must direct an individual entity to appoint one.

A NETP can choose to appoint a VAT representative. However, as the VAT representative is jointly and severally liable for any VAT and penalties, it is unusual for this to be done voluntarily.

It is more common for a NETP to appoint a VAT agent. Someone who is authorised to deal with VAT affairs on their behalf but who is not jointly and severally liable.

Hope that helps.
