VAT returns for clients

VAT returns for clients

Didn't find your answer?

Is it possible to get HMRC to send client VAT returns directly to agent?

Is it possible to do clients VAT returns online?

If so what is the best way of achieving this?

No. Yes. See HMRC's site
Generally it is not possible to have HMRC send a Client's VAT return to a 3rd party. They will usually only do this if the taxpayer does not have a premises, or is based outside of the UK.

You can submit VAT Returns online as an agent. Details are available on HMRC's website. You must register with the Government Gateway online and then your client must authorise you as his agent on HMRC's website.

Probably...
...but the difference is it's just a one-off authorisation after which no further direct involvement is required by the client.

The only downside that I can see is that you don't have to require the client to sign off on the VAT return figures before it's sent.

thanks Paul
I suppose the problem is if the client is too inefficient to post the green form they will usually be too inefficient to do the online authorisation
