Didn't find your answer?

I have just received a telephone call from an unnamed person [refused to give his name] purporting to be a litigator on behalf of Companies House. He refused to give me his company name, his telephone number and extension. He said that we were no longer the owners of our company and that there were significant penalties for failing to deal with this. He said that the telephone call was being recorded and that I was not to interrupt him and that he would tell me when I could speak.

I hung up and immediately contacted Companies House who did not know of any problems with our company.
Has anyone else received such a blatant attempt to gain information or to charge a fee under similar circumstances?

Not just a con artist - but a stupid con artist.

A polite (or maybe not so polite) "***** off" followed by putting the 'phone down is the only way to deal with these con artists.

There is a legal obligation, even on Companies House and HMRC, to put all demands in writing before making teleohone calls, and, they are obliged by law to establish the identity of the person they are speaking to before disclosing the purpose or nature of their call, so you know they are con artists very quickly when they dont.
