Viewing Word documents whilst online

Didn't find your answer?

I wonder if anyone can help me. I regularly visit a website which provides technical guides in word documents. Once I've viewed a guide I then have major problems getting to another web page as no matter how I try I get told that the program has "performed an illegal error" and close down. It appears this is due to a problem between Word and Internet Explorer (I use Internet Explorer 5 and Word 97). Is there a patch I can download or anything I can do with my settings etc to prevent this

Consider upgrading
Brian
You could get yourself a brand new unused cellophane wrapped retail copy of MS Office 2000, complete with certificate of authenticity, for less than £100 on ebay or qxl auction sites. Then upgrade Internet Explorer to version 6 by FOC Internet download.

You don't say which operating system you are using. If its Windows 95 consider upgrading to Windows 98 Second Edition but not Windows ME. Office 2000 Pro and both editions of Windows XP are best loaded onto a new or reformatted hard drive so are best left until a new machine is acquired.

Before doing any upgrades check out the required hardware specs to ensure that your machinery will cope.

If you don't want to upgrade, check out the Microsoft online support pages - there is a vast amount of information there.
