VT Transaction

VT Transaction

Didn't find your answer?

I'm not having any luck backing up onto CD. I've been through 'Help' and 'FAQs'. Technical support at VT Software is out until Monday. I keep getting "Cannot write to .....tra. Check that the disk is not write protected" Can anyone help, please?
Thank you.
Simon

Don't understand why you are having problems
Should be simple. The "backup to diskette" on the file menu doesn't work for cds and you have to use windows explorer.

Backing up to a CD or ZIP drive:
You cannot use VT Transaction to directly copy a file to a CD or ZIP drive. You should use My Computer or Windows Explorer instead and copy the file like any other file. A company file will located on your hard disk in whichever folder and under
whatever name you choose when you originally created the file using the New Company command. By default they will be in the C:\Transact folder. Company files have the extension .tra. Please note that unlike some other accounting programs
there is only one file for each company/business in VT Transaction.

To copy a file to a read/write CD or ZIP drive:

1 Double click on My Computer
2 Double click on the Transact folder
3 Single click on your file (you can make a multiple selection of files by holding down the Ctrl key)
4 Choose the Copy command from the Edit menu of the current window
5 Double click on My Computer again
6 Double on your CD drive (usually d), or your ZIP drive
7 Choose the Paste command from the Edit menu of the current window. You should see the file appear in the window

To restore a file from a CD, do the above process in reverse.

When Windows copies a file from a CD drive, it normally sets the Read-only attribute (we are not sure why but it is a real nuisance). To remove the Read-only setting:

1 Right mouse click on the file in My Computer or Windows Explorer
2 Choose the Properties command from the pop up menu
3 Untick the Read-only check box and click on OK

This does work for me. Do you have a problem copying files to cd generally? I know it sounds silly but you do have a computer that can burn (and not just read) cds don't you? If this is the problem do the same for a memory stick.

Also are you using a RW CD?
Some programmes insist on RW rather than R CDs. I always buy the first as the cost difference isn't much and you can keep rewriting over them so they are cheaper in the long run.
