I would like to self learn about tax credits. Is there an equivalent to a dummies guide I can read? Where would I find this?
Thanks

perhaps start with
reading booklet WTC2 from cover to cover. And then in reverse.
With kind regards

It is a valid question
FirstTab - your question is perfectly valid. I have learnt a lot from your posts.
I do not know any dummies Guide but there is plenty of info on the web. Try the following:
.
FirstTab, you are working really hard! 02:56am! LOL.
Joking aside, I also tend to work quite late, until 1am is normal twice a week! That is because I am still in full time employment and struggling to build a practice, so that I can take the plunge.
The first response to your post was at 4.20 am! Early riser!
Are you the same FirstTab that we normally see riding her bike?:
Seriously though, and I realise that this maybe somewhat heretical, I usually try the HMRC website as a first port of call. Their library of manuals, leaflets etc has proved very helpful to me in the past - the WTC ones particularly so.
Training and information
On AWeb last year was the following:-
https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/anyanswers/tax-credit-software
and more recently, AVN referred to in one of the responses but I've just looked on AVN's website and can't find details of the training course (search for tax credits just gets you to an update for their software).
Another name (related to AVN I wonder) is "The Tax Credits Team" at:-
These people have recently offerred a free 34 page booklet on tax credits and on 18th November are holding a one day course on Tax Credits costing £200. However just going on their website I find they are also offerring a £75 half-day course too (on 4th November 2010), not mentioned when they supplied the free 34 page booklet.
The mob mentality???
Give me a break, FirstTab!
If you look for an over-engineered solution to simple problems, it is only a matter of time someone gave you the under-engineered answer you knew all along.
