Have you tried the Office ProductivITy Kit?
Faiyaz, if you are working with accounts data in Excel, you might also be interested in the Excel module in Simon Hurst's Office ProductivITy Kit.
It costs £60 from AccountingWEB's Resource centre. As well as a tutorial that aims to teach you all about Pivot Tables in the space of a lunchtime ("The Lunchtime Pivot"), the Excel module also includes tutorials on:
* Working with accounting data
* Designing reliable spreadsheets
* Advanced charting, and
* Presentation – number formats, working with text and underlining

Quick Guide to Pivot Tables
I personally do not use pivot tables to prepare my accounts but here is a quick guide anyway.
Firstly your data needs to be in a database format, i.e. with a heading for each field at the top row of the data.
I have also found that to summarise data correctly in a pivot table that you need to sort the data in the way that you want it summarised.
If you then use the pivot table wizard, highlight your data and the fields will be shown to use as you want them.
Fields are dragged onto the example to be used as column or row headers with at least one field to be used as data.
When you drag the data field onto the example you will need to double click on this to determine how you want to show this data, i.e. count it, sum it etc.
Hope this helps.
L50 Keeps full NL Audit Trail
Line 50 does keep a full Nominal Audit Trail and full Management Accounts facility.
More tutorials
There are also some guides and tutorials on:
http://www.mathtools.net/Excel/Pivot_tables/index.html
The first example on the page is probably about as simple as it gets - guy doing a pivot table on the contents of his toolbox(?).
Otherwise suck and see worked quite well for me - don't spend too long on the theory, chuck anything through the wizard initially, then edit the table (rt click wizard), move things about and see what happens.
Line 50 short coming
Does Line 50 not keep an audit trail of Nominal transactions? What other shortcomings does Sage Line 50 have from your experience?
No
Simple, no.
