What does TIDO stand for

What does TIDO stand for

Didn't find your answer?

Can an ex-Revenue person or anyone else tell me what department is represented by the initials TIDO, and what its function is. I found the reference in the IR Inspectors manual.
Thanks

Here is a true one
I worked for Post Office Telecom (pre BT days) we had targets to meet and they were called Telecom Improvement Programmes, known as TIPs. I, in all innocence, once asked why these Targets were called Programmes.

I'll leave you to work out the answer.

...and there was a chap called Andrew Greene

Andrew used to record his time sheet narrations in acronym. This was fine until he had booked some time to working on a client's Permanent Information Section and the WIP printout had to be produced during a fee negotiation, prompting the client to say that he was not prepared to pay our staff for their time spent in the loo.

Revenue Acronyms
I can't comment on the validity of Andrew's rumour re the Post In Strict Sequential Order For Filing acronym, but when I was working for the Revenue in the mid 80's, the department was in the throes of computerising. First off was the Computerisation of PAYE (COP), followed by the Computerisation of Schedule D Assessments (CODA). However, the Computerisation of Corporation Tax Assessments (COCTA) was felt to be too risque, so this became On-line Corporation Tax Assessments (OCTA).

In the good old pre Self Assessment days, you will recall that the Schedule D assements were estimated and sent out in batches early in the year. Before computerisation, this was known as the Principal Assessing Programme (PAP). After computerisation, this was briefly changed to the Computer Related Assessing Program, before someone realised that this was probably unsuitable!

Oh yes, there was also a system developed for distribution of information through the regional and district network, whereby relevant information would be sent to districts every two weeks - this was the Fortnightly Information Bundle System (FIBS).

Good one, John,

...and perhaps NICO stands for "Nobody in Charge Obviously"?

No wonder FICO changed its name...

The IR are very fond of acronyms
Legend has is that in the early 90s, when the IR was deluged with work and wask taking over 3 months to answer letters (ah, those golden years!)a system of organising work called "Post In Strict Sequential Order Filed First" was introduced- think about it!

As previously said, the purpose of TIDO is to distribute Taxes information to network offices.

This generally consists of information obtained from financial institutions about interest and share dividends, from Foreign Goverments about currency transactions, interest paid to non-residents etc, and from large institutions detailing payments they have made to self-employed sales staff on a commission basis.

There is also a lot of information available from local sources such as local councils, landlords, letting agents and payments by smaller concerns- this would generally be distributed by individual districts or TDOs.
