Why do accountancy firms do this?

Why do accountancy firms do this?

Didn't find your answer?

I'm really bemused. More often than not, when I write to an outgoing accountant for professional clearance, the reply papers are posted to me at my registered office, which is my house, as opposed to my office. This is in the footer of my letterhead, in tiny grey writing, and is only there because it's a legal requirement. The trading address is at the top of the letterhead, nice and bold and colourful along with my email and phone numbers. I like to think it's pretty obvious.

Why do they send to the Reg Office? Have I missed any leap of logic? Would you send to a registered office over the obvious address quoted on the top of a letterhead?

Hmm

It probably reflects the fact that professional clearance letters are typically passed to the most junior (and therefore inexperienced) person in the office.  People are stupid sometimes!

Is there a reason

the registered office is not the business address?

Likelihood of change

“Is there a reason

the registered office is not the business address?”

I would expect that it is because the home address is less likely to be changed.

I regularly get letters that should be sent to the trading address but somebody has chosen to send them to the registered office. I assume it’s because the person sending the letter doesn’t have a clue.

Come on Monsoon

this careless situation isn't soley in the accountancy camp. It's in all walks of life and, equally frustrating is;  the spelling of surnames and, when someone dies, organisations persisting in writing to the deceased, even when they've had official notification of the death. It's all just downright sloppy and suggests a distinct lack of consideration. In certain circumstances, I'd be given to respond "can't you ******* read"!

Image is of a pin up style woman in a red dress with some of her skirt caught in the filing cabinet. She looks surprised.

Not just accountants

But they are the majority who do it! Inclined to agree might just be carelessness/ stupidity. Just checking there wasn't some secret logic I wasn't a party to! ;)

And yes, Peter Saxton is right, the office wasn't as permanent a few years ago. It is now, but I will wait to change RO til I have to get letterheads reprinted as I have about 1000 left right now! That and I'll have to pay my designer to do it. Might wait til I've got my ATT and Fellow membership and get the whole lot changed then.
