Window98 error

Window98 error

Didn't find your answer?

For the last 6 months or so, sometimes, but not always, when I switch my computer on and wait until the desktop appears I get the following windows error message"Spool 32 error, program has performed an illegal operation Spool 32 .exe".

I then switch computer off, and back on again, and it is usually ok. I have tried Windows website for any fixes, but could not find any thing.

Any ideas please?

Kick Windows98 Spool32 errors into touch
From my experience, once this symptom has been triggered it is very hard to resolve. As Viv points out Norton Ant-Virus can trigger it. As Anthony mentions, delete the TMP files and also run a scandisk on all the disk drives to eliminate disk inconsistencies and errors.
The root cause of the problem is with the version of the print spooler that is supplied with Windows98. Replacing the spooler program with the version that was supplied with Windows Me solved the problem in all cases that I tried. I can send you (and any other Accountingweb member) the file and instructions if you email me at [email protected] with Subject FixForSpool32

Check your system with Norton Utilities (or equivalent)
John
Sounds as if you've either got a disk error or a Windows software error. I suggest that you load "Norton Utilities" and run "Disk Doctor" for the former and "Win Doctor" for the latter. The reports will show up errors encountered and will help you sort them out.

I can supply Norton software at very reasonable prices if you want to email me on [email protected]

spool 32
Hi John

We had a similar problem with our software but this occurred when printing. It's obviously trying to spool some sort of job.
We fixed the problem by completing the following steps

1. Delete all TMP files from C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
2. Within the properties of the default Printer Driver, increase the Transmission Retry settings to 450, and change the spool settings from EMF to RAW.

Hope this helps

Tony

Possible solutions
Delete and reinstall printer driver - update from printer manufacturers website. Norton Antivirus kicks this one up in some instances - did you install new antivirus around the time it started appearing Change default printer to another printer and see if it makes any difference. Check for newer driver for video card. Yours Viv Burrows [email protected]
