I would like to build my very small part time accountancy work to a full time employment. Does anyone have any experiance of advertising in the yellow pages is it worth the cost?

I wasn't overwhelmed by them
I found local parish magazines and leaflet dropping far more effective.
Direct mail
Can I ask you to explian exactly what you did?
For example, what the direct mail offered? How many did you send a week? Where did you get the list?
Can I also ask what type of clients you won? How profitable are they and why did they respond?
Thanks
Bob
Dont bother
As one who has built a practice from scratch very quickly I'd say dont waste your money.
Spend your cash on direct mail shots and phone calls and introduce yourself to fellow professionals - bankers, solicitors etc and ASK for referrals all the time.
I could count on one hand the number of contacts I have had via Yellow Pages.

I found this quite ecomonical and pretty much built my practice from it over two years. I didn't get much joy from direct marketing and virtually none from YP. Too many others advertising in YP and too expensive. The one thing I did find was that people looked locally for their accountant ... another problem with wode circulation media.
yellow pages
I agree, local advertising is much better.
That said, I have a free line entry in the Yellow pages and that has produced a little bit of work.
