FCA to tackle HSBC on standards

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has joined other regulators by looking into HSBC over its Swiss tax evasion scandal.

The probe comes after last week's allegations that the bank had helped its clients evade UK tax using accounts in Geneva, reports the BBC.

According to the FT, the watchdog is likely to examine the case of Sue Shelley, the former head of compliance in Luxembourg at HSBC’s private bank, who was dismissed 18 months ago for raising concerns about tax-dodging,

Auditors raise Rangers going concern questions

Auditors at Deloitte have sounded a new warning over whether Rangers FC's operating company can continue as a going concern.

The Big Four firm formed the opinion after considering the future financial position, including the need to raise more funds if the club are not promoted this season.

It also raised another warning over the uncertain outcome of former Ibrox kingpin Craig Whyte's legal battle over ownership, after considering the adequacy of director disclosures over the case, reports the Herald Scotland.

Eversheds launches new consulting arm

New hires from EY and KPMG has allowed law firm Eversheds to launch a new arm to its consulting service.

The law firm has expanded its consulting services business, Eversheds Consulting, with the launch of a financial services regulatory compliance offering, and recruited six senior consultants and a team of compliance contractors, including Jean-Paul Simoes and Jonathan Steward from EY and KPMG, reports Legal Business.

Others to join include Simon Chapman, Noreen Husain and Clive Summers from specialist regulatory and compliance practice Resources Global Professionals (RGP).

They will be joined by RGP's former managing director Simon Collins this month along with financial services partner David Saunders, formerly of Nationwide.
