MPs attack Post Office mediation scheme 

The BBC reported that MPs have criticised the Post Office for how it has handled claims its IT system caused at least 150 sub-postmasters to be wrongly accused of false accounting and fraud.

More than 140 MPs have withdrawn their support for the Post Office's mediation scheme, set up to address the claims. More to follow later.

HMRC staff unhappy about pay, survey shows 

Revenue responses to the Civil Service People Survey 2014 show that only 23% rate the department as ‘a great place to work’, while 47% either ‘disagree’ or ‘strongly’ disagree and 30% are neutral on the question.

A minority say they are happy with pay arrangements, with 20% feeling their pay adequately reflects performance, down from 25% in 2013, and 21% reporting they are satisfied with the overall benefits package, down from 26%.

Punch Taverns sends HMRC guidance to tenants 

The Morning Advertiser reports that Punch Taverns has reiterated its position regarding the “several hundred million pounds” collectively owed by pub operators in overpaid tax rebates, following more letters sent by HMRC to tenants following a Court of Appeal decision from earlier this year.

PwC accused of 'lying' by PAC

Yesterday Hodge grilled both the heads of tax at PwC and pharmaceuticals giant Shire about tax avoidance.

The hearing followed the leak of Luxembourg tax rulings from November. 

Hodge accused Nicholson of misleading the PAC in January 2013 when he said PWC did not mass market tax products.
