Pension Wise to expand offering

The government’s pensions guidance service Pension Wise is to expand its service this month.

The service, which is currently open to members of the public from six moths before their 55th birthday, is set to open its doors to those aged 50, this month.

An update posted yesterday by the Peterborough branch of Citizens Advice on its Facebook page said that the Treasury had made changes to the eligibility for Pension Wise appointments.

Eyes down for Budget Bingo, Mark II

The run up to the second Budget of 2015 has started, with George Osborne expected to make cuts to housing benefit, a further lowering of the overall welfare cap and reductions to in-work tax credits.

The Chancellor – in the first Budget he has been able to deliver without the Liberal Democrats – is expected to temper the £12bn of welfare cuts with a rise in the personal tax allowance and a commitment to do more to persuade employers to boost pay to compensate for the loss of income, possibly by encouraging more employers to pay the living wage.

AccountingWEB editor-in-chief John Stokdyk comments: "As is traditional, AccountingWEB will be subjecting the summer Budget to our usual scrutiny, working with members and experts to identify the measures most likely to affect small businesses, commenting on the Chancellor's speech on the day, and following up with Rebecca Benneyworth's long-term forecast on the issues that are likely to dominate the Conservatives' tax policies over the next few years. We would like to thank our Budget 2015 sponsor TaxCalc for making all of this activity possible. "

Having a break? What marketing gimmick would really raise your eyebrows?

Early this week one of our members quibbled about receiving edible spam in the form of a KitKat sent through the post from Receipt Bank. In Receipt Bank’s defence, CEO Michael Wood said, “I love cake and all kinds of chocolates. When I started RB I wanted to make this part of our culture."

This prompted a debate among members on some of the strangest marketing material that they have received through the post. They're talking about the strangest things that we've received, but it's got us thinking about some of the weird stuff accountants and PR companies have offered us as promotional attention grabbers.

What's the weirdest gift or company incentive you have offered or received?
