WebExpenses has joined the app revolution by attempting to marry the expenses management capability of its software with the mobile usability of the iPhone.
The result is a basic mobile app, developed by Signifo, allowing users simple claim entry and expenses management on the go. The company has started by using a ‘micro-tasking’ strategy, focusing on the features required to support receipt capture and claim details.
The free-to-download WebExpenses iPhone app is in the process of being developed further and is expected to have many more 'relevant to mobile' features over the coming months. The app went live in the iTunes store last month and an updated version will be arriving in September.
The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, requiring iOS 3.1 or later.
Blackberry and Android versions together with a browser based version will also follow in September. The app can be downloaded here.
Strengths
- Expenses can be entered on the go, ensuring efficient use of travelling time and immediate processing of receipts before they are lost
- It makes use of data picking from lists, minimising use of the soft keypad
- It integrates with the iPhone camera to allow the attachment of photo proof of the receipt
- A sync icon lets you know if the item is updated to your company’s WebExpenses system
Weaknesses
- Not yet a full WebExpenses experience on the move (updated versions expected over the coming months)
- No customisation at this stage
- Have to process all the expenses yourself – no option to have a bookkeeping team process it for you
