Asus launches U46 ultrabook laptop

Taiwanese PC manufacturer Asus has launched the latest model in its ultra-slim laptop range, the U46 Notebook.

The device, powered by a second generation i5 processor from Intel, is less than one inch thick and offers up to 10 hours battery life on a single charge. Featuring 4GB of RAM together with a separate 1GB of video memory underneath an aluminium and brushed metal case, Asus is positioning the U46 as a premium laptop for business users on the move or in the office.

Very impressive hardware and quite an accomplishment at that size & price. Shame they couldn't squeeze a faster HDD or even a SSD in there though. That could make such a difference, especially in providing near-instant boot times.

A SSD would have been a good move - still, in 12 months time I'd like to see more of these ultra books available with a touch screen so they can take advantage of Win8...the cold boot time for that OS is amazing!
