Berlusconi faces jail for tax fraud

Former Italian prime minister and 'bunga bunga' party advocate Silvio Berlusconi has been sentenced to four years in prison for a 200m tax fraud.

His jail term was reduced to one year, however, because of an Italian amnesty law aimed at reducing prison overcrowding.

Berlusconi has faced a number of trials, but this is the first time he has been convicted.

The 76-year-old billionaire's extra-curricular activities appear to be catching up with him, as he also faces separate charges of paying an underage prostitute for sex and subsequently covering it up.

Berlusconi's media empire Mediaset was at the heart of what judge Edoardo D'Avossa described as "significant tax evasion".

The court heard that the party-loving former prime minister's holding company Fininvest bought the rights for US movies for broadcast on its Mediaset channels, then misdeclared the payments to avoid paying tax.

his ability to keep acting offended / hard done by when he has been on trial something like 33 times. The guy should get an Oscar, or perhaps be running a country like Libya instead of Italy?
