Danielle Stewart joins Red Tape Challenge

Danielle Stewart, a partner at Baker Tilly, has been appointed by BIS as one of their two Company Law Red Tape Challenge Champions.
The challenge is part of the coalition government’s policy to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens on business, but after focusing on specific sectors such as retail, hospitality and transport, the latest target is much broader, covering Company Law itself.
It’s a vast subject, last tackled in 1999-2006 by Labour’s company law review. Some aspects of the Companies Acts will probably need to be rewritten to accommodate the financial reporting standard being developed for mid-size entities (formerly known as FRSME) and to enact proposals from Europe to exempt micro companies from filing traditional year-end statutory accounts.
Stewart was closely involved in the previous round of small company law reforms and was part of the group that originally suggested creating a financial reporting standard for smaller entities, FRSSE. She has also served as vice chair of the Auditing Practices Board’s small company committee, and chair of the London Society of Chartered Accountants technical committee.
