12 months, one firm and a target of £150,000 to raise for local and national charities - can it be done?

Company formation agent Jordans, which serves accountancy and other professions, thinks it can.

The firm, set up in 1863 when Queen Victoria was on the throne, celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2013 and aims to raise a thousand times that amount for a series of hand-picked charities.

Events will range from those the public can take part in, such as community projects, bike rides, summer fun days and for the slightly more adventurous, the Welsh Three Peaks challenge in June.

Jordans’ 150 Charitable Fund was set up by the firm for the cause, a non-profit company with a dedicated website where patrons can donate.

The Princes Trust, British Red Cross, Brace, the Royal Hospital for Children Bristol appeal, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity and Cancer Research UK will be splitting the proceeds, seeing the charities potentially receiving £25,000 each.

Jordans commercial manger Carol Prince said the plan was to mark their historical anniversary in a way that would involve the community.

"This is an important milestone," she said. "We wondered how to mark it and came up with this initiative, holding both high and lower profile events throughout the year to raise money for charities."

As January starts, Jordans is already at 3% of their donation target, according to their website.

The launch party on 18 January at the Bristol Hotel will kick off the mammoth charity drive, with events from then on getting into full swing.

Other events on the cards include a Butcombe Brewery tour, skydive, the Bath Half Marathon, bake sales, sports league events and a virtual race night.
