New Zealand-based software house Greentree International this month ramped up its presence in the UK with a competition offering UK companies a chance to win a £150,000 business systems overhaul.

Greentree has had a UK presence for five years, but launched its GAME ON initiative to raise the profile of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system combining financial, order processing and customer management facilities. GAME ON invites any UK business to put its case why it should win the software makeover. After shortlisting by a judging panel, 10 will go forward to a vote during November on who deserves the prize most.

The competition will certainly attract attention to the software, but in quieter surroundings software reviewer David Carter has been putting the latest version of Greentree through its paces in one of his famous lab tests.

Carter first reviewed Greentree for AccountingWEB in 2007 and hailed it as “a product of the first rank”. Five years later the verdict remains the same, he commented after seeing its expanded capabilities in 2012.

The business software market has been focusing on developments in the cloud for the past few years, but Greentree has shown that there’s still room for innovation, particularly among mid-sized businesses that want more than just “lite” versions offered by the ERP software giants.

To cater for the increasingly sophisticated demands of mid-size companies, the latest Greentree edition has added sales order processing (see below), stock control and customer relationship management to the core finance functions Carter was so complimentary about.

Greentree Sales Order entry screen

This time around, Greentree’s 3D Live interface, a customisable screen that lets the user pull data in from all the separate modules to see them in one place, caught the reviewer’s eye.

Each panel can be adapted to the operator’s needs and selecting a customer in one view, say outstanding orders, the related screens will change to show the orders and invoices for just that customer.

If a client wants to reorder the same item they bought previously, the Greentree user can drag that item from the history panel and drop it into the new order.

The program’s Business Process Management module comes with approvals and alert tools that can set up business rules to control transactions as they pass through the system.

“What is so impressive about facilities like BPM and 3D Live panels is that they are integrated into the fabric of the software and are a standard part of Greentree.” Carter noted in his review, concluding “This is outstanding software.”
