Channel Islands launch LVCR legal challenge

Guernsey businesses using the VAT relief scheme have welcomed a legal challenge from the States of Jersey against the decision to end VAT relief on low value goods exported from the Channel Islands to the UK.

Healthspan, a Guernsey-based company that is also launching a personal legal challenge, welcomed the announcement “on the grounds that it is discriminatory against the Channel Islands” and added: “We will await the judicial review with interest before we make any further comment.”

Chancellor George Osborne announced last month that LVCR, which allows retailers to avoid paying tax on goods below £15 from the Channel Islands to the UK, will close from 1 April 2012.
