It’s approaching that time of year again. Paper tax returns received after 31 October deadline will mean a £100 fine even if no tax is owed, HMRC has said.

There are further penalties after three, six and 12 months.

The deadline for sending an online tax return is 31 January.

One advantage of online filing is that tax is calculated automatically and your return is processed faster, the Revenue said in a recent statement.

About 11 million people are expected to fill out a self assessment tax return for the 2013/14 tax year (6 April 2013 to 5 April 2014).

Surprised.....

That HMRC software still can't cope with taxpayers with trust income and that the deadline for their paper return remains at 31 October.  It is just another form of taxed income after all!
