Entries are now coming in for this year’s Practice Excellence Awards, which celebrate the achievements of individuals and firms across the profession.

Now in their fourth year, the awards have been expanded to recognise the contributions individuals and teams make to the success of their firms. That’s good news for anyone who is an outstanding accountancy trainee, technology enthusiast or payroll specialist, as there will be separate awards for each of these groups.

In addition to the usual prizes for small, medium and large firms, there are also categories for the most innovative firm and the one that has had the most successful growth strategy. That means there are more than twice the number of opportunities to gain nominations and recognition by taking part.

One firm that will be back again this year is South West-based Milsted Langdon, which has set the benchmark for 7+ partner firms by winning the large firm Practice Excellence Award three years in a row.

Milsted Langdon founding partner and chairman Jonathan Langdon explained: “We’ve made the award wins part of our sales proposals for new work and this has enabled us to win a number of clients from the Big Four. Linked to that is the rise in the number of referrals we now receive from other professional advisers. With their reputations at stake, they are naturally going to feel more comfortable recommending an award winning firm than one who has not been recognised for its achievements.”

There have been additional benefits to taking part in the awards process, Langdon added. Other professionals referring their clients to the accountants are more confident in recommending an award-winning firm and the mutliple award wins have helped Milsted Langdon when it comes to recruiting. “People want to be part of an award-winning team and our three wins have had a great impact. Similarly, we’ve noticed that our highly successful teams are now even more motivated than they were before,” said Langdon.

“Everyone at Milsted Langdon has been spurred on by the hat-trick of wins and wants to continually improve so that the firm can keep succeeding, growing and achieving positive results. Entering and winning the Practice Excellence Awards has enabled us to reap all these benefits and so I’d recommend that if you’re thinking about making a submission, you should go ahead and do it. The benefits from not just winning but even being shortlisted are huge and could transform your business.”

So what’s holding you back? The full details about the awards and how to enter are available on 2014 Practice Excellence Awards website.

The awards are part of a wider Practice Excellence Programme being run by AccountingWEB throughout the year. This includes the Client Satisfaction Recognition Scheme that has grown out of the Practice Excellence Awards and a series of practical white papers and articles on marketing, technology and profitability strategies sponsored by business software giant SAP.

This year’s Practice Excellence Programme will culminate at a major conference in London on November 6  that will conclude with an early evening award ceremony. SAPThe 2014 Practice Excellence Awards are sponsored by SAP: “We know exactly how important accountants are to helping businesses grow and we want to do all we can to support that.
