Midlands-based accountancy firms Hayles and Partners and McGregors Corporate have teamed up to form a new entity, MGC Hayles.

Leicester-based firm Hayles will link up with McGregors' Nottingham and Birmingham offices to create a firm with an estimated annual turnover of £2m.

The deal will bring the staff complement up to 50 staff across the three offices, with 35 based in Leicester.

The expanded firm aims to develop services in corporate finance, support for international trade in addition to supporting and developing young entrepreneurs.

McGregors is already a member of AVN, but the expanded firm now plans become a member of the UK200 Group of independent accountancy and legal firms.

The firm will also continue to develop its online cloud-based accounting system for start-ups and growing small businesses, Squeeze.

Hayles will celebrate its 40th anniversary in business next year. Founding partner Geoff Banks said he was "pleased and excited" about the merger.

"Combining our business with McGregors team will enable the firm to continue to develop its services and support business in Leicestershire and the Midlands for many years to come," he said.

The Leicester office will be led by Steven Mugglestone, a former finance director who worked for Grant Thornton for 14 years. He will work alongside original Hayles partners Paul Angus and Geoff Banks.

A third McGregors out in Mansfield will continue to operate independently of the merged firm.
