New director for Baldwins

25 June - Mark Craddock was recently appointed to the firm's board

After starting out in a local Birmingham practice, Craddock completed his ACCA qualification in 2002 at EY Birmingham before becoming audit manager.

He then joined Baldwins Accountants in 2007 and now heads up a 20-strong team.

MHA McIntyre Hudson hires new face 

25 June - The firm has brought in a new senior healthcare accountant. 

The firm's Leicester branch has hired Kellyanne Quantrill, who has previously worked for healthcare specialists Moore & Smalley, in Nottingham.

Deloitte promotes four directors

25 June - The Big Four firm promoted the four in the North East.

The promotions include:

  • Ravi Sharma in restructuring services
  • Paul Hewitson in audit
  • Maree-Louise Kernick in risk
  •  Keith Stewart in the strategy practice

New Bishop Fleming corporate finance director 

24 June - The firm has appointed a new corporate finance director for the West of England. 

David Abbott joins Bishop Fleming from his role as corporate finance director at BDO in Bristol.

He trained with Baker Tilly in London and he spent 19 years as a corporate finance specialist at Smith & Williamson, also in Bristol.

Former EY partner opens tax boutique 

23 June - Graham Parrott has opened a new tax boutique in Guernsey.

Parrott left EY for the new firm, which will be branded as Fitzroy Tax Services.

He is offering both compliance and advisory services to clients and is positioning his service offering into UK, Guernsey/Jersey and International.

Moore Stephens adds two to team 

23 June - The firm has bolstered its financial services team with two new appointments. 

The senior appointments include John Baker has been as counter fraud director and Mathew Ring as been appointed as IT audit director.

Two new hires for PKF Cooper Parry

23 June - The East Midlands firm has brought two new faces into its restructuring team. 

Paul Addison joins from Grant Thornton, where he spent 20 years and has experience of restructuring and advisory work. He spent the first 15 years of his career working in London and the last three years in both the East and West Midlands. He joins the firm as director of restructuring.

Steve Butler joins PKF Cooper Parry’s restructuring team as a senior administrator. He will be responsible for managing a portfolio of cases and will be involved in various restructuring assignments from commencement to conclusion.

Gillman retires from Price Bailey exec role

16 June - The firm's executive chairman will retire on 30 June, but stay on in an advisory role. 

Gillman has been with Price Bailey for 44 years. He trained with the firm, became its managing partner in 2001 and its first managing director in 2004 when it became an LLP.

The outgoing exec said he had been "very fortunate" to work with terrific clients and colleagues at his time with the firm. 

"I know I leave the firm well placed to deal with the challenges of a modern business environment. It has been great fun and I feel enormously privileged," he said.

                Begbies Traynor completes London acquisition 

16 June - The insolvency specialist has acquired Paddington-based Ian Franses Associates. 

The circa £2m deal is for an initial consideration of £600,000 in cash and there is a deferred consideration of up to £1.4m dependent on financial performance over the three years from completion, which will also be satisfied in cash, according to the firm.

As part of the wider Begbies Traynor Group, Ian Franses will focus on executing higher volume liquidations and personal insolvency in the London market.

Taylorcocks partners with Jumpstart

14 June - The firm has hooked up with the tax relief specialists as part of Jumpstart's UK expansion.

The new deal will enable the two firms to share clients and strengthen relationships with our existing clients. 

Taylorcocks will introduce Jumpstart as a way of maximising R&D tax relief claims.

Managing director at Taylorcocks, Ian Cocks said: "HMRC is tightening its enquiry of R&D tax claims. Now more than ever, clients need to have experts at their side to make sure the claims are solid, compliant and bring high returns."

Rebus hires former HMRC man 

13 June - The group has appointed Graham Webber as its new head of PR.

Weber has worked in tax since 1976, beginning HMRC and progressing through practice, before joining Barclays in 1987, followed by Royal Bank of Scotland in 2000. 

His specialisms include high net worth private clients, financial trading, executive remuneration and big ticket leasing. In 2007, Graham joined film investment company, Future Capital Partners, specialising in the design and execution of tax efficient products for corporates and individuals.   

His role at Rebus will primarily focus on B2B. Working with the senior team he will build and develop a network between the business and professional services firms. In addition, Weber will also work in a technical capacity providing guidance on  complex schemes.

PKF Cooper Parry bolsters East Midlands restructuring team 

13 June - The firm has appointed two new faces to its team in the East Midlands.

Paul Addison and Steve Butler were added to the team, bringing the number  working on restructuring assignments at the firm up to 20.

Addison worked at Grant Thornton for 20 years and has experience of restructuring and advisory work. He spent the first 15 years of his career working in London and the last three years in both the East and West Midlands. He joins PKF Cooper Parry as Director of Restructuring.

Butler joins PKF Cooper Parry’s restructuring team as a senior administrator. He will be responsible for managing a portfolio of cases and will be involved in various restructuring assignments.

The new administrator has 12 years’ experience working for a middle-tier accountancy firm and also for one of the top four.

Deloitte promotes 65 new partners 

9 June - The Big Four firm has announced it will promote the 65, which is the largest number of partner promotions for the firm in a decade.

Chief executive David Sproul said the promotions were due to the increasingly positive economic conditions.

He said: "The message I am hearing from chief executives at clients large and small, is that British business is ready to invest in growth opportunities to take advantage of an improving economy."

Aspen Waite acquires Pinder Cox 

6 June -The Somerset firm has merged in a bid to expand into Dorset.

Under the move, Pinder Cox will become the Dorset branch of Aspen Waite and all members of staff will remain in post.

Managing director Mark Stanton is leading the expansion.

Aspen Waite’s chief executive Paul Waite said he was "extremely proud" of the move:

Five new appointments for Johnston Carmichael 

5 June - The new appointees were added to its senior management team.

Rosalind Catto was promoted to director. She is in the firm's Inverness office and joined Johnston Carmichael in 2004 and has previously worked as a financial controller. 

Sheena Ross has been promoted to director and been with Johnston Carmichael for 15 years. She has also  worked as a senior manager at the Fraserburgh office and specialises in agriculture, renewables and owner managed businesses.

Lynne McCormick was also made a director. She was part of a Big 4 firm prior to joining Johnston Carmichael in 2005. Based in the Elgin office, Lynne is a Senior Audit Manager. She holds a number of management positions within Johnston Carmichael’s leadership structure.

Glasgow-based Donald McNaught, who joined Johnston Carmichael in 2011 as director of insolvency, has been promoted to partner and has over eight years’ experience as an insolvency practitioner.

Douglas Baxter also joins the firm as director of general practice and member of its specialist agriculture team. He will be based in the Perth office.

Philip Bird joins Moore Stephens 

5 June - Bird has joined the firm's corporate finance arm. 

He will be responsible for corporate finance lead advisory activities.

Bird has He has over twenty years corporate finance experience, advising on mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions and fund-raising, as well as providing general strategic advice. He has worked across a broad range of sectors and has particular expertise and experience in the transport, logistics and business support services sectors.

Prior to joining MSCF, Bird worked with Grant Thornton, Royal Bank of Scotland, Hawkpoint and Bank of America.

Menzies launches forensic services 

4 June - The new department will provide a range of corporate accounting investigation and intelligence services.

It will specialise in forensic accounting and financial investigation assignments, involving both civil and criminal litigation and offer a full range of corporate investigation and intelligence services. 

The forensic services team will be led by insolvency practitioner and previous Serious Fraud Office principal investigator Gavin Cunningham and Philip de Nahlik, a chartered accountant specialising in forensic accounting assignments with over 30 years' experience.

BDO appoints 14 new partners 

3 June - The top five firm has announced its promotion of 14, including Dawn Register to partner.

The firm has announced the appointment of 14 partners in a range of services across the UK

London partners include Tim Neathercoat and Dominic Stammers have been promoted to audit partners. Chris Chapple and Neil Stockham are now tax partners and Alex Ellerton and Steve Smurthwaite are now both advisory partners. Also made partners in the capital are Tomas Freyman, valuations partner, Richard Morley, tax investigations partner, Dawn Register, tax disputes and disclosures partner and Vanessa Bradley, business assurance partner.

Outside of London, Emma Suchland was appointed to tax in Manchester, James Shipp to business services and accounting in Great Yarmouth, Paul Knight to tax in Gatwick and Paul Daly to tax in Reading.
